The Fringe Farm Network was born out of one visionary man's dream for this country, that food insecurity would finally and truly become a thing of the past. As he watched his family and friends suddenly suffer dehabilitating food shortages, and saw many of his local farmers losing their businesses and ability to provide for their own families as well, Will Leeman of Nova Scotia decided it was time to step up to the plate with a unifying and real solution.
It was a solution that had already been tried and was proven to work extremely well! It was a solution that many of our forefathers and ancestors all used to make sure that they and their communities thrived together as well as separately. What was that solution, you ask? It was as simple as a barter and trade economy. That's right. My eggs for your cheese. My cow for your horse. My work on your property for your fresh veggies and meat. It's how buildings got built, animals got cared for, tradespeople got paid and families got FED.
And so the FFN Foundation Inc. was birthed and nurtured into a strong and wildly growing MOVEMENT, as well as becoming an officially registered non-profit organization in Canada. The Fringe Farm Network now thrives and continues to grow at an unprecedented rate under the direction of an ever expanding group of Provincial Ambassadors, a Board of Directors, and their mission is simple:
To work to connect everyday people and businesses with farms, homesteads, local food producers and educators in each province and across Canada. Our focus is on food, education and economic security through education and facilitation of the use of cash, barter and trading as part of a robust parallel economy that is insulated from government overreach.
